This is my second day in Liputan. On my first day, I witnessed how the first day of Barrio Fiesta is celebrated. Geanne, my high school batch mate, and her family were my host during my stay here. I was treated like one of the family member and was provided a bedroom to stay the night since Geanne's son (Maru Khyle), a year old child, sleeps at his lola's house.
I woke up by the sound of the marching band. Still half-asleep, I thought it was late already but it is still dark outside, the moon shines brightly and the night sky is peppered with stars. I check my phone and it is only 2am. "Perhaps this is a way to wake up the people to prepare for the fiesta", I thought to myself. I observed the stars for a couple of minutes and went back to sleep. Seemingly like seconds ago, I woke up at 3am by the marching band again. Every time I hear the marching band, I feel quite paranoid that the pagoda will be sailing already to Poblacion. Knowing that it is still too early, I made sure that I set the alarm at 5:30am. Before going back to sleep again, I observed the dock and the landscape through the window. It feels so peaceful as I hear the gentle crashing of the waves (Geanne's house is just located beside the daungan/dock). . I woke up again by the sound of the megaphone announcing the preparation. It is just 5:30am and I already got out of bed to take pictures outside and observed the preparation. The sun is already rising during that time and I just love how it reflects to the gentle flowing waves of the Meycauayan river. The Barrio Fiesta of Liputan, Meycauayan is annually held every first Saturday and Sunday of May. This year 2015, the Barrio Fiesta is held on May 2 and 3. The highlight of the festival is the pagoda that will carry the Mahal na Senyor, the Nuestra Senyora, other patron saints and religious idols, and people who wants to ride the pagoda to St. Francis of Assisi Church in Poblacion where a mass will be held. After the mass the religious idols will be taken back to the Liputan to be paraded. (See also: Liputan Barrio Fiesta 2015 Day 2) It is believed that the Mahal na Senyor is miraculous especially during the time of the festival. Liputan has always been interesting. I only knew about this barangay when I was in high school when a classmate of mine mentioned that he lives there. I was very surprised at first that a boat ride is needed to reach the barangay since it is a group of islands.
Before starting my voyage to Liputan, I went to Saluysoy to buy some Francia's Puto Special as pasalubong for Geanne and her family who will be my lovely hosts for my stay in Liputan. Geanne was my batch mate when I was in high school Francia's Puto Special is famous in Meycauayan. The establishment was already featured in newspaper articles because of its special texture and taste. Aside from the Puto Special, several goodies can also be bought for pasalubong. Francia's Puto Special is located at 221 Saluysoy, Meycauayan. From Aliw Complex, you can ride a tricycle and tell the driver to take you off at Francia's. Years ago, I am already familiar with this red bricked structure but never knew this is an old train station until someone from a social media group mentioned about this. The Meycauayan Old Train Station was a part of the Manila-Dagupan Railroad, the first rail line in the country.
The construction of the rail line started at 1887 and was finished at 1892. There were many stations that constituted the Manila-Dagupan Railroad, Tutuban being the first and Dagupan being the last. The Meycauayan Station served as the first station for the railroad system in the province of Bulacan. |
